What is Sports Massage?
The main purpose of Sports Therapy Massage is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, Sports Therapy Massage can break them down quickly and effectively. The massage will help prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility, and to prevent injuries.
Sports therapy massage can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete or a once-a- week jogger.
What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage is a deep tissue massage helping the body to return to normal health after injury. Deep tissue massage removes damaged cells, scar tissue, and adhesions left after injury, speeds up recovery, and encourages more complete healing. Remedial massage increases the flow of blood and lymph, particularly in the injured areas. It is often successful where other forms of treatment have failed.
During the treatment there is tenderness in areas that are being treated. This indicates which muscles and tendons are injured. The therapist uses the patient's feedback to pinpoint the damaged tissue and to regulate pressure. The results are usually immediate; certainly within 3 sessions a big improvement will be seen with a skilful practitioner. Most clients feel a difference after 1 session. A recent injury will react and recover more quickly than a long-term injury.
Remedial Massage has particular success with long-standing back and compound injuries that have resisted previous treatment attempts. Some common conditions that can be successfully treated are:
• Achilles injuries • Tendinitis • Shin Splints • Cartilage damage • Tennis Elbow • Frozen Shoulder • Hamstring injuries • Plantar Fasciitis • Scar tissue • Adhesions • Whiplash • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome • Repetitive Strain Injury
